Current Teaching Series: “Understanding Who the Holy Spirit Is”

Main Scripture: Acts 1:1-9

The Holy Spirit is the one who comes beside us to help us to do those things that we cannot do on our own. He gives us dunamis power.

Fresh Start Christian Church Belief Statement

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead, the very God, co-existent with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is the chief agent in the regeneration of the soul, the chief convictor of sin and the chief comforter of the believer. Simultaneous with regeneration, the Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the body of Christ, permanently indwells in him and seals him in salvation for all eternity (John 16:1-13).

The Holy Spirit as Chief Convictor of Sin (John 16:1-14)

Convict – To make one aware (with a goal of leading to repentance).

Condemn – To make one feel guilty or humiliated with the purpose to destroy.

  • Make the world aware of sin and that you are a sinner in need of a savior.
    • John 3:16-18
    • John 1:12
    • 1 John 1:9
      • Conviction – to make one aware
      • Repentance – to turn away from sin
      • Confession – to say the same thing God says about sin
      • Forgiveness – when God lifts the burden of sin.
      • Cleansing
    • 1John 5:17 – all unrighteousness is sin.
  • The Holy Spirit does not condemn, destroy or humiliate us.

Conviction of Righteousness

  • Christ’s perfect relationship with God.
  • Christ is no longer with us as a physical example.
  • 1 Corinthians 1:30
    • Christ became our righteousness
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21

Conviction of Judgment

  • The consequences and punishment of following satan.
    • satan is already destroyed

The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth.

We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God and is inerrant in the original writings. The Bible being the revealed Word of God is the ground and foundation from which all claims of truth shall be substantiated (2, Timothy 2:15;  2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21;
Psalm 119:160).
