Established in the Faith: 1 Thessalonians 3
“and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,” (1 Thessalonians 3:2)
- Establish – to set on a firm foundation
- Christians should be established in their Salvation, Who God Is, and their Faith. Your understanding should not be shaken.
- Ephesians 4:14 – that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
- Are you established in the faith – Matthew 13:1-9
- Encourage – Helps in withstanding affliction when you have a foundation of faith.
- John 15:18-19 – “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
“And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you” (1 Thessalonians 3:12)
- Agape – Love that can only be demonstrated through the agency of the Holy Spirit.
- You must first be willing to give the Holy Spirit permission to work through you.
- Our rights and emotions cannot rule over the power of love from the Holy Spirit.
“that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints. (1 Thessalonians 3:13)
- Holiness – set apart by the power of God to be different from the world.
- 2 Timothy 3:1-5
