March 28, 2021 – Passion & Right Motive

Fresh Start Christian Church
Service Outline – March 28, 2021

Current Teaching Series: “Prayer is Essential”

Main Scripture: Matthew 6:5-7

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

James 5:16b – The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (NKJV).

Persistence in Prayer

Examples of the requirement of persistence in prayer

  • Jesus’ teaching on prayer – Luke 11:1-10
    • “So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who [h]keeps on asking [persistently], receives; and he who keeps on seeking [persistently], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking [persistently], the door will be opened. (AMP)
  • Parable of the persistent widow: Luke 18:1-8

Passion and having the Right Motive in Prayer

  • Our prayers should be passionate and heartfelt. We should mean what we say and it should be from our hearts.
  • We also must have the right motive in our prayers (James 4:3). The aim of our prayers should be to bring glory to God.

Examples of the requirement of persistence in prayer

  • Hannah – 1 Samuel 1:1-20
  • Hezekiah – Isaiah 38:1-6
