Knowledge, Wisdom, Strength and Joy (Part 2): Colossians 1:9 (AMP)
For this reason, since the day we heard about it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking [specifically] that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [with insight into His purposes], and in understanding [of spiritual things],
“…filled with the knowledge…”
- Ephesians 3:14-19
- Being filled is a moment by moment, repeatable action.
- Knowledge (dictionary definition) facts, information, and skills required by a person through experience or education
- 1 Peter 3:15 – But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear..
“…of His will…”
- God’s will is His design, purpose, plan, intention for His people.
- For Christ to return and reign (Isaiah 14:12-15,24-27)
- For all to exercise justice and righteousness (Micah 6:8; Psalm 33:4-5)
- For all to exercise honesty and truth (Proverbs 11:1, 12:22)
- For all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9)
- For us to be holy and sanctified (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
- For us to continuously rejoice, pray, and be thankful (1 Thessalonians 5:16)
- For us to live by a high moral standard (1 Peter 2:15-17)
“…in all wisdom and spiritual understanding…”
- Wisdom is the practical outworking of knowledge
- The wisdom that we are seeking comes from above (James 3:17)
- Wisdom is the only path to a full and fruitful life (Proverbs 2:10-13)
- Spiritual understanding comes through the discernment given by the Holy Spirit (John 16:12-15)
