The Christ of Christmas: Matthew 1:18-25

  1. The Christ of Christmas is the Savior of the World
    • Jesus (Yeshua: Jehovah-Savior; the Lord saves)
    • People first have to realize that they are sinners. That there is such a thing as sin. You have to realize that you need a Savior.  (Romans 3:10 & 23)
    • Sin is any lack of conformity to God’s law; doing forbidden things or failing to do expected things (Romans 5:8-17)
      1. Types of Sin (Psalm 51)
        1. Missing the mark – missing God’s mark concerning what God’s law is
        2. Inequity – direct and open rebellion against God
        3. Transgression – stepping across the line. Going beyond the prescribed boundaries of God’s word
        4. Trespassing – carelessness, slip or fall rather than intentional disobedience
      2. There are things in this world that are socially accepted but they are still a sin
      3. All unrighteousness is sin
      4. There is a standard of right and wrong. That standard is God. God’s Word. God’s Law. (John 3:16-18)
  2. The Christ of Christmas is God with us
    • S-P-R-E-A-D
    • We believe that there is only one true and living God existing in three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each is a distinct Person, but all of one essence and all having the same nature, perfections, and attributes, and each is worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience.
    • When we see Jesus, we see God
    • John 14:7, John 1:18, Colossians 1:15, Philippians 2,  Hebrews 1
    • When we see Jesus, we see firsthand WHO God is and HOW God called His children to live.
