Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

Fresh Start Christian Church Belief Statement – Jesus

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, shed His blood on Calvary in our place, was buried, rose again and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures (Luke 1:26-33).

  • Why did Jesus have to come in the flesh? S.P.R.E.A.D.
    • S – To make the ultimate Sacrifice for our sin
    • P – To fulfill the Prophecies
    • R – To Reconcile us back to God
    • E – to provide us with Eternal Life
    • AAllow us to see God
    • D – To Destroy the devil and his works
      • Genesis 3:14-15: Bruise the devil’s head
      • Hebrews 2:14-15: Destroy the devil
      • 1 John 3:8: Destroy the works of the devil

The devil had the power of death because he introduced sin which causes death.

  • Romans 5:12
  • Romans 6:23
  • Ezekiel 28: The 1st sin was committed by the devil

When Jesus died and rose again He conquered death and rendered the power that the devil had ineffective.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:54-57
  • Revelation 1:18
  • 2 Timothy 1:10
  • Colossians 2:215

The works of the devil are all the sinful and evil attitudes and actions of which he is the source.

  • Murderer/liar: John 8:44
  • Steal/kill/destroy: John 10:10
  • Blind minds not to believe: 2 Corinthians 4:4
  • Deceiver: 2 Corinthians 11:1-4

Everything the devil has done or will do was destroyed on the cross, and at Christ’s finished work the devil and his will be ultimately destroyed forever.

Scriptures to remember:

Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”

Ephesians 6:10-18 – “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints”

Romans 8:35-39 – “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

1 John 4:1-4 – Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess [a]that Jesus [b]Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
