Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

Fresh Start Christian Church Belief Statement – Jesus

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, shed His blood on Calvary in our place, was buried, rose again and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures (Luke 1:26-33).

  • Why did Jesus have to come in the flesh?  S.P.R.E.A.D.
    • S – To make the ultimate Sacrifice for our sin
    • P – To fulfill the Prophecies
    • R – To Reconcile us back to God
    • E – to provide us with Eternal Life
    • AAllow us to see God
      • Exodus 33:17-23
      • John 1:18 (Also see verses 1 & 14)
      • John 14:7-9

When we see Jesus we see God.

  • Colossians 1:15
  • Colossians 2:9
  • 2 Corinthians 4:4
  • Phillippians 2:5-6
  • Hebrews 1:1-3a

When we see Jesus we see firsthand who God is (His character, attributes, essence) and how God called His children to live.

    • Obedience to the Father’s Will: Ephesians 5:17
      • Luke 2:41-49
      • Matthew 3:16-17
      • Matthew 12:46-50
      • Matthew 26:36-44
      • Romans 12:1-2
      • We have to be wise and understand what the will of God is for our lives and we get that understanding through a renewed mind (reading, worshipping, meditating, praying) and then we have to be obedient and DO the will of God and not our own will.
    • Overcome temptation: Matthew 4:1-11
      • Satan used the same tactics that he did in the garden (lust of the flesh (bread), pride of life (command angels to rescue Him), and lust of the eyes (showing all the kingdoms) –  John 2:16
      • God promises that no temptation will be beyond what we are able to endure and God will provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). We see the tactics that the enemy uses and we see how to fight it (the WORD of God).
      • God promises that if we resist the devil, he will flee (James 4:7)
    • Genuine love toward all people: Mark 2:14-17
      • We too have to have genuine love for all people according to 1 Corinthians 13
      • We have to love all, even if they don’t love us back, like our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44)
      • We have to love not just in words, but like Jesus did, in deeds (1 John 3:16-18)
    • Show humility and service to others: Matthew 20:25-28
      • John 13:5-17
      • Philippians 2:8
      • We are called not to be selfish, but in lowliness of mind (humility) esteem others over yourself (Philippians 2:3-4)
      • We ought to submit to one another and humble ourselves under God’s hand and He will exalt us (1 Peter 5:5-6)
    • Show Forgiveness (to those who have wronged us: Luke 23:34
      • Matthew 6:14-15
      • – Forgiveness is HUGE. We have to forgive those who have wronged us, no matter how bad that wrong is. To hold on to forgiveness will hinder your prayers (Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear)

Before Jesus, no one had seen God. When Jesus came in the flesh, He allowed the world to see God and by seeing God through Jesus, we were granted the opportunity to know who God is and HOW God has called His children to live.
