Main Scripture: A Study of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 5-7
(Matthew 7:24-29) “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” 28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

We Are Salt and Light – Matthew 5: 13-16
You are the Salt of the Earth
Salt is a preservative and a purifier
- We are called to prevent the moral corruption and decay in our world, to help people come to a place of holiness.
- When we mix with things/sin unlike God, we lose our effectiveness (our flavor) and our witness and our walk becomes good for nothing.
- Having the wisdom and understanding of God to speak preservation and health into the world (Colossians 4:5-6)
You are the Light of the World
Light is a symbol or representation of who God is (1 John 1:5) and a symbol of the salvation of souls (Psalm 27:1)
- Jesus was the 1st light of the world (John 8:12 and John 9:5)
- You are called to be a witness and representation of who God is through your life, attitude, behaviors, action and works.
- We hide our light by trying to be like everyone masquerading like the world or as the old man.
- We cannot pull away from our light source (Jesus Christ ) because our light will dim, flicker or completely go out.
- Lights are supposed to be seen. Display Your Light!
- Light shines the brightest in the dark (the world)
Do not entangle yourself with sin/sin lifestyle (Galatians 5:1)
Let your Christian walk be visible to those around you (Matthew 5:16)
