Current Teaching Series: “Understanding Who the Holy Spirit Is”
Main Scripture: Acts 1:1-9
The Holy Spirit is the one who comes beside us to help us to do those things that we cannot do on our own. He gives us dunamis power.
Fresh Start Christian Church Belief Statement
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead, the very God, co-existent with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is the chief agent in the regeneration of the soul, the chief convictor of sin and the chief comforter of the believer. Simultaneous with regeneration, the Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the body of Christ, permanently indwells in him and seals him in salvation for all eternity (John 16:1-13).
The Holy Spirit’s Baptism (Acts 1:4-5)
Baptizo: to dip, to immerse, to be placed into
- 1st Baptism of the Jews Acts 2:1-4
- 1st Baptism of the Gentile Acts 10:44-46
The Holy Spirit baptized or placed us into the body of Christ AT THE MOMENT we accepted Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:13).
- Galatians 3:27-28
- Allows us to put on Jesus Christ
- Allows us to be one in Jesus Christ (unity)
- Romans 6:3-6
- Allows us to share in Christ’s burial and resurrection into new life.
The Holy Spirit’s Indwelling (John 14:16-17)
Abides,Dwells, In – Always there
- 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- 1 John 4:7-13
Our assurance we are saved is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
The Holy Spirit’s Sealing (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Sealed – marked or stamped as God’s property. It shows ownership, authority and protection.
- 2 Corinthians 1:20-22
These truths are POSITIONAL not EXPERIENTIAL. At the moment you are saved all of this occurred: baptism, indwelling and sealing of the Holy Spirit.
